After waiting long enough,WikiLeaks finally released documents from the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta. Revealed that the bloggers in Indonesia used for U.S. interests.
This was revealed in a wire on February 12, 2010 ago from the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, to U.S. Foreign Ministry officials named Jared Cohen. As reported by the Guardian on Wednesday (19/01/2011), wire it to reveal U.S. strategy to take advantage of social media in Indonesia to U.S. interests.
It is called the Public Diplomacy Strategy 2.0.That is, the Internet is used as much as possible to spread U.S. influence and securing U.S. interests in the country of destination. They chose this strategy because of the growth of social media in Indonesia is very fast.
Jakarta wire with reference code 0065 is a report to the U.S. foreign ministry, that the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta managed to run the Public Diplomacy 2.0. "The U.S. Embassy in Indonesia is the leader in Public Diplomacy 2.0. With more than 50,000 fans (at the U.S. Embassy's Facebook account), at most of the other U.S. embassy around the world, using social media in Indonesia,"said their statement.
So who is targeted by the U.S.? Apparently the blogger worked to spread the messages of the U.S. government.
"Involving local bloggers to promote the message and the information the United States. We are uniquely positioned to use these tools to reinforce the themes and key topics to support the push planned visit by President Obama," they said.
The blogger was already involved in the last two years. "Over the last two years, engage positively with thousands of the most influential bloggers in this country (Indonesia)," they added.
Not only bloggers, social media was used for other propaganda media. Mentioned they are Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
"U.S. Embassy at the forefront of up to 50,000 fans, 300 videos on our own YouTube channel and nearly 1,000 followers on Twitter,"the diplomatic wires.
